    When the Capitol Hill Library opened in southwest Oklahoma City in 1951, it was a state-of-the-art facility embraced by the growing community. Sixty-four years later, the Capitol Hill Library remains nestled within an expanding community and bustles with activity on a daily basis.

    A new technology has arrived in four Metropolitan libraries. Thanks to a $132,000 grant from the Inasmuch Foundation, MediaSurfers™ are now available in the Almonte, Capitol Hill, Ralph Ellison and Southern Oaks Libraries.

    In After School at Your Library, local artists at select library locations work with teens on a weekly basis, using creative projects to encourage and reinforce positive interactions, teach skills, and provide an outlet for artistic expression. Every participating library location has a different artist with a different specialty and project focus. Sometimes it's visual art like drawing and painting, sometimes it's film and video production, or creative movement and dance.

    The touching story of Cain’s Arcade inspired people worldwide over two years ago. Filmmaker, Nirvan Mullick, hoped to share the creativity of a 9-year-old boy and bring a few more customers to his ‘arcade,’ made entirely of cardboard. Since then, donations for Cain’s college fund poured in, the Imagination Foundation was born, and the Global Cardboard Challenge was launched.

    Reading can take children all kinds of places, even the moon! The Capitol Hill Library, 334 SW 26th St., and the OKC Astronomy Club celebrate the 45th anniversary of the first moon landing. Future astronauts can launch in for this program Sunday, July 20, at 2 p.m. The event will encourage literacy and offer lessons about astronomy and history. It is open to families, children and teens. Apollo 11 landed on the moon July 20, 1969.

    Visit the Capitol Hill Library on Saturday, May 3 at 2PM to get free comic books and the chance to choose your own adventure in comics you create.

    In celebration of Black History Month, this February the Metropolitan Library System is once again partnering with Rhythmically Speaking to present a new play by Oklahoma City playwright DWe Williams, “Nothing But Mercy: A Private Room Please!”

    It’s the story of two strong women who never met but together pioneered a compassionate new way of life by undermining a cruel old one.

    The Capitol Hill Library, 334 S.W 26th Street, will host its annual Holiday Open House from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7. The day will be filled with entertainment and refreshments. And, of course, much more.
