Neighborhood Arts programs are a summer staple at the Metropolitan Library System. This June and July, the entertainment line-up is full of fun, energetic performances from favorite artists and some new ones too.

Summer Reading begins Friday!

Summer Reading 2018

The launch of Metro Library's 2018 summer reading program, “Libraries Rock” begins Friday, June 1st. The program gives children, teens AND adults the opportunity to earn prizes while they read for fun and promote the importance of reading in our communities. The program launches June 1 and concludes July 31. Summer readers can track their reading progress and earn fine waivers, books, tote bags or cellphone accessories. There will also be prize drawings for Kindle Fires and iPads for participates who have an active Metro Library card. Prizes must be claimed by Aug. 15.

Participants can also select to donate their fine waivers and prize books to someone in need. This year the summer reading Read it Forward program will donate books to local non- profit organizations including Citizens Caring for Children, Faithworks of the Inner City, Mary Mahoney Memorial Health Center and Sisu Youth Services. All summer reading book prizes are sponsored through the Friends of the Metropolitan Library System.

Author Victoria JamiesonBestselling author and illustrator Victoria Jamieson will visit OKC in March for a series of writing workshops and author appearances.

The Metropolitan Library System is hosting the ‘Let’s Talk About it, Oklahoma!’ series along with the Oklahoma Humanities Council, featuring book discussions on ethnic American women’s voices.

The most recent installment of the ‘Let’s Talk About it, Oklahoma’ series, “Piecing the Quilt, Stirring the Stew” which explores ethnic American women’s voices, takes place at the Capitol Hill Library beginning Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. with The House on Mango Street. A discussion with a Spanish speaking moderator will be held the following day, Jan. 30 also at 6:30 p.m. at the library.

MLS Now Offering Free Digital Streaming through Hoopla

The Metropolitan Library System is now offering free digital media streaming to library customers. Hoopla offers digital streaming much like Netflix, but it is free with a library card.

The library system partnered with the digital web platform Hoopla to offer movies, TV shows, music, audiobooks and eBooks 24/7 without holds or waits. The free digital streaming service includes over 450,000 titles.
