Metro Library Donates Kindle Fires to Boys and Girls Club
(Oklahoma City, OK - June 28, 2017) - Today at the Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma County, Rep. Cyndi Munson, D-District 85, read to a group of children to promote the Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) Compact’s ReadOKC program. This program encourages OKCPS elementary students to read 20 minutes a day this summer.
ReadOKC promotes the love of reading and literacy among children in the Oklahoma City Public Schools District. This summer’s “Get in the Game” program encourages daily reading to prevent a loss of skills during the school break.
Following Rep. Munson’s reading of “The Day the Crayons Quit” by Drew Daywalt, Metropolitan Library System executive director Tim Rogers presented a gift of 30 Kindle® Fires to the Boys and Girls Club’s CEO Jane Sutter.
“We want every child to read throughout the summer,” Rogers said to the children. “Our Library Endowment Trust gave us some money so that we can give the Boys and Girls Club these Kindle® Fires so that you can read your 20 minutes all summer long while you are here at the Boys and Girls Club.”
Spoticus, Metro Library’s mascot, also participated in the reading.
